About Me

THE GIRL WITH THE LONG LAST NAME

Not your run-of-the-mill girl with a camera.

Hi! I hope your wedding planning is coming along great. I’m Tanya Voltchanskaya (yep I know, last name!) and this is the part of my website where I get to show you all the wonderful moments I’ve documented in my career as a wedding photographer.

Worried you’ll be a little camera shy? Feeling a little overwhelmed? I’m here to make you feel comfortable, to give you as many or as few directions as you need, guide you to what looks best on your day, and to stop Aunty Margaret from pulling on your veil for the tenth time. For me, a perfect job isn’t just when the photos turn out amazing, it’s also when you stop thinking of me as just your photographer and start thinking of me as a friend.

This is probably your first ever wedding (or hey – maybe second or third, I mean it’s 2019) so you probably have no idea where to start. I’m here to guide you through your schedule, to make sure you have a kick-ass timeline for photography – golden hour anyone? You are probably wanting someone who knows how to get you comfortable for your portrait session, and also just have fun on the wedding day and not pull you over for thousands of poses!

Anyway! You’re probably wondering a little more about me. I live in a beautiful art-deco house out in the Central Highlands, in a little city called Ballarat (just 1.5 hours out of Melbourne, Australia), with my 5-year old chihuahua x silky terrier named Dexter. When I’m not working weddings, you’ll probably find me at a music festival, a local gig, or pottering my garden (country living has given me a newfound green thumb). I’m an Aries, I'm sad that JK Rowling has ruined my childhood but I still identify as a Ravenclaw, and I have an unhealthy passion for the sad dad-rock band, The National. I want to be able to document people of all different genders, sexualities and backgrounds. I’m also a music photographer, you can check out all my creative work here.

But back to weddings! I absolutely LOVE working with people who have uniqueness and want a wedding that reflects who they are. A lot of my couples are all about breaking traditions - think climbing up mountains for an elopement, digging out 80s new wave for the first dance, or bringing pets down the aisle (like this one here!). But all that said, I still love couples that choose traditions too and I WILL probably cry at your father-daughter dance.

I love venues that are not held at wedding functions but take over lodges, old warehouses or have tents up at a friend’s giant property. And don’t even get me started about elopement locations either! I see so much beauty in Australia (and the world) that I want to explore, and I’d love to work with couples who are willing to go on that journey with me.

If you’re seeking something out of the ordinary, I’m your girl.
Let’s create something amazing together.
