"Marriage means stability - sustaining a relationship on the next level without the status involved - but to start a whole new journey as one."
— Rach, when I asked what marriage means to them
Rach and Sher eloped at Lachlan's Old Government House in Parramatta - not just because they wanted to travel to Sydney from their home in South East Asia, but because it is illegal for both of them to get married back there.
I think about how far Australia has come with same-sex marriage and how honoured I felt to be able to document their beautiful occassion. The timing of their elopement was impeccable - it was at the tail-end of the NSW bushfires, and a month before the very first wave of Covid hit.
They had a small number of friends and family witness their day, in front of the beautiful setting of the old government house. They had a little costume change into a pair of white suits, and had a small reception inside to finish off the night.
