Moody, Alternative Noisy Ritual Wedding / Marlie & Ben
THEY CAME. THEY DANCED. THEY ATE A LOT OF PIZZA. THEY GOT LOUD AT THEIR NOISY RITUAL WEDDING.
Marlie and Ben exude coolness and are some of the kindest people I have ever met. First reason why they are cool: They run a barber shop in Carlton.
Second reason: Marlie is planning on donating the lace from her Made With Love bridal gown to help create outfits for stillborns – the moment she mentioned this in our meeting I fell even more in love with her as we both agree that it shouldn’t be taboo to discuss such things.
Third? I asked Marlie if she was going to have any wedding flowers, and she exclaimed “my tattoo is my flowers!” – this is by far my favourite detail (oh and Ben’s studded shoes).
Fourth reason: She kept it secret (I don’t even know how she kept this a secret) that she is changing her name to his surname because she wants to, not because she has to. I am so grateful I caught Ben’s reaction when he found out – one of my favourite photos of the day!
And fifth: They didn’t even want to get married but promised they would when the same-sex marriage vote passed – so they threw a big party at Noisy Ritual, an urban winery in the heart of East Brunswick, with a fuckload of pizza, donuts and wine.
Just when I thought the night couldn’t be even more amazing, they did a spontaneous first dance to Depeche Mode. ENOUGH SAID.
