So Amy and Malen approached me last year and mentioned they’re a little DIY punk, super colourful, and that Amy runs her own craft business. Seriously, wait until you see the incredible designs by Bangin Hangins, their 70s esque stationary and you will totally understand. They’re so friendly and sweet they even invited me to their joint bucks/hens that was a reunion of Malen’s old punk band.
They were friends of friends when they were younger, but reconnected later in life. Malen took Amy to Ripponlea Estate as a birthday surprise because she loves old fancy old manor homes, and after what felt like hours of doing the house tour, he convinced her to take a walk through the gardens. They got to a gazebo, and he got down on one knee - and here we are!
Amy and Malen

“Have fun with it, and don’t let people muscle you into anything. The best memories from our day came out of the things we really wanted to do that other people weren’t 100% on board with beforehand, but then on the day they loved! Stick to your guns and stay authentic."
They got the amazing DJ Fee-B from Triple RRR (which again, my love for Melbourne grows at this very wedding) and I don’t know why i never thought about getting her before as a dj. Why get someone that plays Uptown Funk 10,000 times when instead they could have just done this? When I saw the couple’s copy of The Photo Album by Death Cab For Cutie I just knew we were an absolute match together -sometimes wedding photography really is just third-wheeling with a super cool couple.
They walked down the aisle to Happy in Love - Dear in the Headlights, walked back down the aisle to: This Will Be Our Year - Zombies and had their first dance as a group to: Come on Eileen - Dexy’s Midnight Runners.
Amy’s dress was made by a dressmaker she found online. “It was important to me that I found someone who wasn't interested in selling me something, and that they were as excited about the process as I was. Grace from Twelve South Bridal just opened her own atelier, and is fairly new to the game. She's super passionate about what she's doing, and you can tell that she really cares. Also she suggested that my dress have pockets so that I can put extra snacks in it. Love that.”
According to Amy, Malen’s only rule was that it couldn't be blue! “Every single thing he wears is blue omg” He found this fab velvet/cord suit jacket in a foresty green, and it's just so different and fun. Everything was adorned with handmade flowers and pom poms.

Wedding advice from Amy
"We worked really hard together to make sure that we were both happy with everything we were choosing, with the ultimate goal being that our day would be fun and happy. We both love hosting events so much, so we really enjoyed working on those little details that were going to add to the day together."
So, this is it. I think this is perfect inspiration for anybody wishing to go down the alternative, punk side in Melbourne, especially around Footscray (one of my favourite suburbs!), but still want to keep it colourful and funky.

"I stressed myself out with all the DIY touches (which of course I love, but probably could have delegated a little better!) but otherwise we tackled it all as a team and we’re both so proud of what we achieved. We’re always dreaming of what the future holds for us, and we‘re looking forward to the adventures to come!”
